Speaking Lesson from Pope Francis: Speak to Individuals
My clients often tell me that they have no problem speaking to a small group – but they get very nervous speaking to a larger audience.
Yesterday, in his first global address, Pope Francis spoke to a live audience of over 100,000.
Yet his voice – calm, even, gentle – sounded as though he were having an intimate conversation with one close friend.
From the Green Room: No matter how large your audience, always remember that you are NOT speaking to a group – you are speaking to individuals. Each person is hearing you in his/her own way. This mindset not only relieves some of the pressure of “public speaking” but will make you a better speaker!
